Urticina clandestina is a newly described species from British Columbia that may have a wider range along the Pacific Coast (
Sanamyan and Schories 2013).
These authors say: "Similar (or, possibly, at least in part the same) species occurring along Pacific coast of USA and Canada [are] often wrongly identified as
Urticina coriacea. The name
Urticina coriacea is not valid, this name is a junior synonym of
Urticina felina, a species known only from European seas and [does] not occurs in Pacific."
